Gretchen’s is one of those restaurants that everyone feels comfortable and at home in, even as their menu is a sophisticated foray into all-American classic dishes. Not expensive at all, but classy enough to be enjoyed on special occasions, families will feel comfortable bringing hungry kids that may not be on their best behavior. And, as expected from any Sun Valley, Idaho restaurant, portion sizes are large enough that guests will want to bring the leftovers back home to their Abode Sun Valley vacation escape. This guide to the charms of Gretchen’s will help you fill in another blank spot on your dining itinerary.
Located at 1 Sun Valley Road, Open Daily 7 AM – 9 PM
Offering an extensive menu that covers breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the vibe at Gretchen’s is definitely a welcoming one. There are no white tablecloths in this cheerful space and as you gather under the crystal chandelier designed to look like tree branches with leaves hanging down, the aromas wafting from the kitchen will definitely set your mouth to watering. As in most of the restaurants found in Sun Valley, the staff manages to walk that delicate line between overbearing and attentive, and the décor of this cozy establishment pays homage to the ski resort that has been bringing travelers to the region for over 75 years. Featuring a fireplace that adds warmth in the colder months and outside dining with incredible views for the warmer months, there really is not a bad seat to be had.
The Menu at Gretchen’s
Because they do serve all three meals, you have to expect that Gretchen’s has quite an extensive menu, and you would be absolutely right. Start your day with avocado toast if you are on a health kick, or their crab and avocado benedict if you are not, and no matter which breakfast you devour, by the time lunch rolls around again, you will be ready to tuck into their burgers and sandwiches. At dinner, their Rosemary & Parmesan Meatloaf is one of their most popular dishes, providing a hearty ending that will be especially appreciated after a long day on the slopes. Gretchen’s doesn’t provide dessert, but we think you will be so full by the time you finish dining that you won’t even notice or care.
Still More Leftovers?
