Sun Valley, Idaho provides the most idyllic of vacation destinations, and our Abode Sun Valley honeymoon hideaways will provide the comfort and coziness needed to enjoy a getaway for two! This guide to all the reasons why Sun Valley is the perfect couple’s retreat destination will have you scouring the internet for new lingerie, swimsuits, and a little black dress that will be perfect for a night out on the town, even though you may find yourself staying in much of the time!
Romantic Adventures in Sun Valley
We will discuss the cozy comforts of our lover’s retreats in a bit, but first, let’s take a look at some of the romantic adventures you can enjoy during your Idaho getaway, reconnecting with your partner as you experience some of the most beautiful mountain landscapes in the world. It doesn’t matter what time of year you visit because every season is the best season to visit Sun Valley. We have listed some of our favorite couple’s activities below.
A Bike Ride Along the Wood River Trail
It’s true, you never forget how to ride a bike, and when you are traveling with your sweetheart, a romantic ride along the Wood River Trail, a 20+ mile paved path that connects Bellevue, Hailey, Ketchum, and Sun Valley, will remind you of how easy it is to ride and how fun it is to share this experience with those you love. The path is a multi-use trail that is popular year-round, and if your visit is in the winter, you may want to try your hand at cross country skiing for a change. If you are going to try the bike riding thing, though, Pete Lane’s Mountain Sports, located at the Resort, offers a large selection of wonderful bikes for rent!
Attend the Sun Valley Music Festival, Various Nights in Late July and August
The Sun Valley Music Festival is a free event that has been charming locals and visitors for over 40 years. Featuring classical music and the occasional Latin-inspired dance music nights, there is just something wonderful about sitting on a blanket or lawn chair in the grass as beautiful music plays and the skies begin to darken. There is an assigned seating under the awning that covers the stage, but we prefer our views of the stars to be as uninterrupted as our enjoyment of the music that is playing!
Whiskeys on Main
Offering live music, cool beverages, and a delicious pub grub menu in a historic location at 251 N Main Street, Whiskeys on Main, is one of our favorite date night spots, and it might become yours as well! Originally called the Alpine Club and famous for being a favorite haunt of Ernest Hemingway, Happy Hour is every day from 4-6 and its rooftop deck is famous for its panoramic views, which is partially why we love having our own date nights here.
A Meal to Remember and a Sleigh Ride Too!
A romantic meal is a mainstay in couple’s world, but we are thinking that you may not have had too many romantic meals that started with a sleigh ride! Trail Creek Cabin, located at 300 Trail Creek Cabin Road and open only during the winter months, is the 1937 cabin that houses all the deliciousness. It is famous for its hearty American comfort food, but it is their sleigh ride dinner that will make you fall in love with love all over again. Don’t forget to save room for dessert, because their Rustic Dessert Bar is world famous!
Couple’s Massage at the Spa at Sun Valley Resort
The Spa at Sun Valley Resort offers one of our favorite luxuries, a lovely massage enjoyed in their couple’s suite while sipping champagne (beer, wine, or soda) and sharing a sweet treat. Offering 50-minute and 80-minute massages, there is absolutely nothing negative that we can say about this romantic activity, and believe us when we say you will both feel like new people when you walk out of the spa after your treatment has ended.
A Day on the Slopes
Whether you ski hand in hand (metaphorically) down the mountain or you take the mountain at your own pace, meeting up at cafes for hot chocolates, cocktails, or a hearty lunch, your day on the mountain will be a romantic one filled with moments that will become cherished memories. Even if one of you prefers to sit in the lodge by the fireplace reading and sipping while the other does all the schussing, romance will still be in the area when you come together again for après ski at Apples Bar & Grill (215 Picabo Street in Ketchum at the base of Baldy). Sparks will fly and love will be in the air once again!
Hanging Out at Home in Our Couple’s Retreats
Real life is busy and hectic, and you may decide that with a few exceptions, you want to spend the majority of your time in Sun Valley at home, just enjoying being alone together, and that’s perfectly fine with us. Our homes are designed to be the best part of a vacation experience that already outshines all others, and as you explore comfort, take time for romance, and fall in love with this time in which you have nothing else you are supposed to do, you will find yourself falling deeper in love with your life partner. Now that you have seen a little bit about what you can expect during your Sun Valley adventures, let’s take a tour of the honeymoon hideaways that will be your home for the next little bit of time.
The Abode Sun Valley Difference
As you step out of your rental car on your first day in town, the Abode Sun Valley difference will immediately be apparent. The air feels cleaner, the houses more welcoming, and when you step onto front porches furnished with rocking or other patio chairs, you will already be picturing how your time with us will be spent. Open the door and step inside spaces that are warm in temperature and in their inviting vibe and follow the path of wood or tile floors into spaces you will call home.
Romantic Adventures
The living rooms of our home sweet vacation homes will be the first of your adventures in romance begin, furnished with the softest and most inviting sofas and chairs, equipped with large state of the art televisions, and of course, offering a fireplace or wood-burning stove, because can you really claim to be a romantic escape if there is no fire crackling merrily? Even summer visitors will find that cool mountain nights encourage fires, and if it isn’t cool enough inside, on the back decks or in the backyards of many of our retreats you will find firepits that can stand up to the steep temperature drop of a summer night in Sun Valley. But for now, let’s continue with the tour of living rooms built for lovers, perhaps noticing bookshelves or cabinets stocked with books and movies, offering more ways to draw you two lovebirds closer together.
A Romantic Meal
You probably won’t want to eat every meal at home—there are plenty of fine choices for romantic meals in Sun Valley and Ketchum—but sometimes it is fun to work together in the kitchen, sharing chores, (he chops, you stir, he washes, you dry) and in our Abode kitchens, the high-end appliances we provide will entice you to do just that. Dining rooms, located just steps away, will be even more romantic when you dim the lights and light the candles you strategically packed in your suitcase for these moments, and as you dine on whatever gourmet treat you prepared, sip a good and hearty red wine, and discuss your future, your dreams, perhaps as the snow falls outside, your love will grow even stronger. Life is made up of millions of such moments, but there will be something different, something wonderful about the moments you spend in these rooms.
A Hot Tub Under the Stars
Does anything feel better than a soak in a bubbling hot tub after a long day of physical activity? Well, we are sure there are some things, but it still feels pretty darn good, and as you and your partner soak under a night sky twinkling with the lights of a billion stars, we think you will agree. Our winter guests may not spend as much time out here as our summer guests, but we can promise that whatever the season, the hot tub will be your favorite spot outside the house. Sun Valley is a Dark Sky Reserve & Community, by the way, the first in the United States, and if you think light pollution isn’t really a thing, when you step out onto your porch at night in Sun Valley and stare up at a sky so laden with stars the night is lit up, you will understand the reality. We all remember lying out on the grass back in the day, counting shooting stars and pointing out the various constellations, but when was the last time you were really able to do that? We can’t answer that question, but we will be able to tell you the NEXT time will be during your couple’s retreat in Sun Valley to Idaho!
A Sanctuary Within a Sanctuary
Our vacation rentals are sanctuaries already, but as you make your way to the primary suite, rolling your suitcases behind you, you are about to step into a sanctuary within a sanctuary. Tranquility is important, and comfort equally so, both of which are offered in these rooms. Dominated by premium beds topped with high thread count linens, your space may also include its own fireplace and a sitting area where you and your partner will sip coffee in the mornings as you make plans about how to spend the day and sip wine at night as you discuss just how fantastic your day went. En suite baths may offer large and deep soaking tubs (spacious enough for two?) and showers may be equipped with multiple showerheads for a more luxurious experience. State of the art televisions are found in most of our bedrooms, and watching a movie in bed before falling into the deepest and best sleep of your life can be another tradition you start during your romantic vacation in paradise.
The Not So Romantic Stuff
Will having a fully equipped laundry room make your heart beat faster? Or will ski storage areas that keep muss and moisture to a minimum give you that fluttery feeling in your belly? Of course they won’t, but they both could still be considered a necessity and for that reason alone they are worth mentioning. Quiet spaces furnished with desks and office chairs are about as far from romantic as possible, but if you can’t completely cut ties with your office, they will help ensure that anxiety over missing an important memo will not be a part of this vacation experience. Coffee makers may not make your pulse quicken, but they are probably an important part in keeping your relationship on an even keel, and just like everything else we have mentioned here, are included in your lover’s retreat!
