Sun Valley Halloween Guide

HomeSun Valley Area GuideSun Valley Halloween Guide

Traveling over the holidays is a time honored tradition and although Halloween is not generally considered a traveling holiday, the fun you can have in Sun Valley may convince you to take your annual vacation over October 31st. Offering spooky delights, chilly temperatures, and what are destined to become your favorite vacation accommodations, our Abode Sun Valley holiday hideaways, visitors may experience a new appreciation for all Hallows Eve and the beauty of a potentially snowy landscape. This guide to Halloween in Sun Valley will give you more reasons to visit and all the right answers when your kiddos demand to know how they are going to trick or treat so far away from home.

Peeping the Colors This Halloween in Sun Valley

In most states, there is a very short window of opportunity to observe the changing of the leaves, but in Idaho, the brilliant colors linger through the end of October. And if an early snowfall hits, the combination of fire in the trees and white snow blanketing the ground is a stunning one, providing photo ops that will definitely be worthy of framing. Gracing the walls of your family home, serving as a colorful and beautiful reminder of all the fun you had during your Halloween visit to Sun Valley, even though leaf peeping isn’t generally considered a Halloween activity, it may become an obsession and a new tradition for you and your family.

Halloween Fall Fest, Last Saturday in October, Sun Valley Ski Resort, 12-3 PM

Celebrating everything seasonal, our Halloween Fall Fest is an event we look forward to every year, offering all manner of traditional ways to pay homage to our second favorite season and for some of us, our absolute favorite holiday. If you were to make a list of all the traditional events you associate with this time of year, attending this fun festival would enable you to cross them all off. Packing a LOT of adventures into 180 minutes, guests can expect to enjoy wagon rides across the countryside, doing some more leaf peeping and exploring the Halloween decorations while listening to and watching live music that will keep your toes tapping and have you humming the music long after you have returned to your Sun Valley sanctuary. Offering an innovative twist to the celebrations, this holiday also marks the start of ice skating season and to finish off the festivities, a spooky movie will be shown, airing at 3 PM.

Hailey Halloween Hoopla, October 31, Downtown Hailey, 3:30-5:30

As parents, trick or treating can strike fear in our hearts as we imagine all the horrors that can befall our children and that fear can be magnified when traveling to new places, but the Hailey Halloween Hoopla is guaranteed to take the fear away. Hailey, a small town located just 13 miles south of your Abode Sun Valley Halloween hideaway, is known for its family values, its annual Trailing of the Sheep festival, and of course, its Halloween Hoopla. Offering a costume contest and the opportunity to safely trick or treat at local businesses on Main Street (look for the orange and black balloons to discover which shop is participating) parents will enjoy keeping a close eye on their roaming ghouls and goblins, while also getting the chance to peek at the sales in the participating shops!

Trunk or Treating at the Bellevue Public Library in Bellevue, Last Friday of the Month

The parking lot of the Bellevue Public Library in nearby Bellevue (18.5 miles south of Sun Valley) offers trunk or treating every year from 3-5 PM. Featuring cars decorated for the holiday, your costumed adventurers can skip from trunk to trunk packing in quite a load of candy, including the good stuff you will sneak out of their bags when they pass out from their sugar crashes later that night. Safe, fun, and potentially filled with imagination if you head that way earlier in the day to peruse the shelves of the Bellevue Public Library, it closes at noon, so why not head over to Lucy’s Breakfast, 745 N Main Street for a breakfast of pancakes and stretch out the adventure even longer?
